This allows for a bit of portability, but this is by no means a pick up-and-go option. With the Thunderbolt ports, you can either use the included mains plug, or you can just plug into your Mac / PC and power up that way. The fact you can daisy-chain up to six together tells you this is aimed at professionals who create a large amount of digital work. Whether you go for the 4TB or the 18TB version, the big metal case is something of a beast. #PORTABLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FOR MACBOOK PORTABLE#In fact, if you're looking for a massive external hard drive for work, this is a great option for digital creatives.īe warned, though, if you're looking for a cute, portable little hard drive, the G-Drive Pro is not that. And you get USB-C plus two Thunderbolt ports. There's a lovely, clean aluminium design. Beyond that, you get the choice of eye-watering capacities: up to a whopping 20TB. And we've seen some great discounts on the Samsung T7, so get in there if you want to save big on one of the best SSDs around.ĭon't want to mess about reformatting a hard drive to use with your Mac? This SanDisk hard drive comes Mac-ready, and you can format it to work with any PC, as well. The T5 is still widely available, but the T7 is twice as fast, with read/write speeds up to 1,050MB/s and 1,000MB/s. Like the earlier drives in the range, the T7 is compact, lightweight and robust, with a shock-resistant aluminium housing that means it can withstand drops of up to two metres. We've been impressed with this range of Samsung SSDs ever since our Samsung T3 review years ago. ![]() #PORTABLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FOR MACBOOK INSTALL#You can install applications onto it, and you could even run an entire alternative operating system off it at full speed if you wanted to. You can load, edit and save 4K video directly on the T7, something that can be painfully slow with a USB hard disk. #PORTABLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FOR MACBOOK PASSWORD#You can also use password protection if you prefer. The built-in fingerprint scanner backed up with AES 265-bit encryption, and once you set that up, nobody except you will be able to access your files. And the Samsung T7 Touch is a great value option, with the added bonus of fingerprint security (this is the difference from the standard Samsung T7) They're more expensive, but a lot faster. ![]() That's when an SSD is the smart option over an external hard drive. Speed can be of the essence if you have gigabytes of big image or video files and don't want to be stuck watching the progress bar crawl along at a glacial pace. ![]() If you're looking for more accessories, you might also want to take a look at our pick of the best power banks and the best internal hard drives. Meanwhile, if you're looking for a device specifically for gaming, see our guide to the best SSD for PS5, and remember you can also back up files with the best cloud storage. When choosing the products to feature in this list, we considered storage capacity, upload speed and connectivity – crucial specs for hard drives and SSDs. #PORTABLE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FOR MACBOOK HOW TO#If you're not sure how to choose between them, skip down the page to our section on how to choose the best external hard drives. If you are heading back to college or university, and to make it easier for you to pick the best external hard drive or the best external SSDs for you, we've chosen a selection of our favourite options for both PCs and Macs. And the best external hard drive and best external SSDs can provide peace of mind, safely securing your files should the worst happens. The truth is, your computer could be stolen, damaged, or simply fail. It's true that the value of creatives' work lie in its creativity and design skills, but all that comes to nothing if they can't store, share, transfer and back up files and assets easily, efficiently and safely. ![]()

Weeks later, his sister would find him dead by suicide. But with his ROTC summer camp approaching and fearful that the Army would find out about his illness, he stopped taking the medication. As his grades declined, he reached out for help and a campus clinic diagnosed him with clinical depression. Kevin Graham, an ROTC cadet at the University of Kentucky, had suffered quietly with mental illness. This story brings to light the many challenges faced by military men and women who suffer from mental illness. In seeking to understand PTSD, Dreazen reaches back to the classics, quoting Homer’s question of Achilles in the Odyssey: “Must you carry the bloody horror of combat in your heart forever?” Leaders throughout history did not understand the lasting trauma of combat and its effect on the fighting man.īut it isn’t just about PTSD. (Ret) Mark Graham described his family- his wife Carol, their two sons and daughter Melanie - as the “Disneyworld family.” The photographs of the family traveling from assignment to assignment paint a picture of a loving and happy military family, but hidden under the surface was Kevin’s mental illness. Luxury Cabin with Japanese Teahouse in Guerneville ![]() ![]() Ok, up until now we simply captured traffic over a certain period of time. I think we can do a little better than jsut a csv. Now you have a csv that you can use to train a model! Are we done? Nope. We could also set a time to let tshark know to stop capturing data after a set amount of time using the argument -a duration:10 where 10 is the number of seconds to capture packets for. For example, we could filter down to only domain name service protocols using the argument -Y dns. We can filter down by protocol or even to a specific ip as well using the argument -Y. For example, -E separator=, indicates that our output file should use commas as it's delimiter between fields. #Save wireshark pcap how to#Every argument beginning with -E tells tshark how to format that ourput file. Every argument beginning with -e is a field that we will include in the output file. T fields is letting tshark know that we're going to filter down to a select number of fields to write to our file. The first part -r network_traffic.pcap is really simple we're jsut reading from the pcap file we saved a moment ago. E header =y -E separator =, -E quote =d -E occurrence =f > network_traffic.csv T fields -e _ws.col.Protocol -e frame.time_epoch -e ip.src -e ip.dst \ For this tutorial we will just look at the traffic to and from the device we are working on. To get a picture of the entire network we would want to look at pcap files collected from the network router(s). To be clear, pcap files don't capture what is happening on a particular device, only the communications to and from that device. All of the little handshakes and file exchanges that happen behind the scenes when we use computers on a network are recorded here. These are file records of network traffic. The goal of Infosec when looking through network traffic is to find 1) communications of malware with Command and control servers 2) malware jumping between devices on the network 3) someone else spying on network traffic 4) unsecured communications.Īt a basic level, this can be done by looking at packet capture (pcap) files. This is often done using heuristic/rules based methods and trained human agents. Network intrusion detection and Infsec usually start and end with sniffing network traffic for unusual stuff. We'll move through this process setp by step: In this post I'm going to walk through one simple way to store the network traffic on a single device for later inspection. I'm actually doing something more sophisticated than that, but it's not worth going into here. This would give me labeled data to do amchine learning on! ![]() How can I do this? Well, if I were to take the most naive approach, I could infect different computers with a variety of malware and collect the internet traffic. To fight this I've started collecting my own data to work on. If the data isn't proprly cleaned you can leak sensitive data or private communications. THis data is rare for good reason! Getting access to someone's network traffic gives you a lot of information about how they work and what they do. ![]() ![]() There are a few interesting sets like the Darpa Intrusion dataset, but they are few and far between. Unfortunately, datasets for building these kinds of models is scarce. #Save wireshark pcap password#Other than the usual precautions one might take against malware/network intrusion such as antivirus software, password managers, always using the latest firmware on routers and IOT.I've also been training models to detect beacons (periodic communications between malware and command and control servers) and DGA (domain generating algorithms).
